A Once-in-a-Generation Opportunity
Maasai communities are setting aside a remarkable 1,000,000 acres of community land, more than ten times the 96,000-acre national park core, for conservation, wildlife corridors, community conservancies, and seasonal grazing areas. Together, these lands and the Amboseli National Park form a connected landscape where wildlife thrives, coexistence is maintained, and communities sustain their livelihoods. The Amboseli Resource Centre at Lemong’o is bringing communities, researchers, and conservation partners together to care for this ecosystem and sustain its ecological and cultural values.

Why the Opportunity Needs an Institutional Anchor
A commitment of this scale needs lasting coordination, research, learning, and partnership. The Amboseli Resource Centre provides a home for community-led conservation, wildlife monitoring, education, and the sharing of Maasai knowledge. By connecting local leadership with scientific and institutional partners, the Centre helps turn the land commitment into sustained care for wildlife, community livelihoods, and the wider ecosystem.
